Clive Bell: Shakuhachi improvisations

A lovely set of improvisations on the Shakuhachi by Clive Bell, the marvellously talented musican and writer.

They were recorded in June 2012 but the freshness and control of the improvisations, along with the beautiful weaving melodic lines Bell creates, means I have no qualms about posting them here.

Bell has a joint LP coming out with David Ross on ini.itu records soon – it’ll be well worth checking out.

And, for additional Japanese instrument goodness, here’s a great piece in The Wire about the biwa, which Clive calls ‘the crystal meth of the lute world’.
